About this Course

Reflection Activities
Each week the students will have assigned readings from the course textbook by Ron Dass, How Can I Help: Stories and Reflections on Service and additional topical areas relevant to class discussions. A weekly discussion question will be posted electronically on Oncourse and the students will be expected to respond with written reflections on the topic.

Students will prepare a 5-10 minute presentation for their classmates and a summary document about their experience which is to be shared with their pre-medical advisor on their own campus. The summary document will include an “impact statement” in which the student will describe how the experience has impacted their education and development. The course will be graded as pass/fail. In order to pass the course, students are expected to attend all class sessions (or perform a makeup assignment), serve 3 hours at the clinic each week, complete the weekly Oncourse written reflection, and complete the summary project.
