Dr.
Allen is the Otis Bowen Professor, director of the Bowen Research
Center, and medical director of IU Family Medicine at OneAmerica®
Tower. She served as chairman of the Department of Family Medicine
from 1989-1998. She received her medical degree from the Indiana
University School of Medicine, completed her residency at Methodist
Hospital, and is board certified in Family Practice.
Her clinical
interests include general family practice with special interest in
psychosocial problems and women's health care. Her research
interests include physician supply and demand in Indiana, women
physicians, and the effect of women physicians on the medical
profession. She is interested in the political side of medicine, and
is involved with the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians and
American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
Dr. Allen served as
President of the American Board of Family Practice from 2000-2001.
She has been selected by a consensus of her peers to be included in
"Best Doctors®
in America" for 2004. She was the 1992 Thomas Johnson Award winner
from the AAFP for outstanding contributions to Family Practice
education. In 1998, Dr. Allen received the "Sagamore of the Wabash"
award from Governor Frank O'Bannon for her contributions toward
providing family doctors for the state of Indiana.)
