Didactics

Each Thursday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. on is reserved for our Didactics series. The schedule is built on an 18-month rotation of topics considered to be the core knowledge necessary to educate family practice residents, and prepare them for taking the family practice boards. The didactics topics are divided into subject areas, with a faculty member is assigned to each. The assigned faculty member either gives the presentation him or herself, or finds an outside ‘expert’ to give it. Learning modalities include traditional lectures, case presentations, hands-on workshops, webcasts, and interactive multimedia presentations.

In addition to Thursday didactics, FM Grand Rounds are held most Mondays at noontime. Residents present interesting cases from either the inpatient or outpatient setting along with a brief review of the literature relevant to the case. Discussion then occurs among faculty and residents regarding the patient’s presentation and management.

Finally, residents participate in monthly noontime sessions of Dermatology Rounds and in Musculoskeletal Radiology Rounds, using patients and radiographs from patients in our office.
