Class of 2009



Antoinette Barnes, M.D.
University of Alabama at Birmingham
Antoinette Barnes, M.D., M.P.H., received her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Barnes chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency program because of the diversity amongst its residents, well established behavioral science emphasis, success rate for Step 3, and high level of responsibilities expect from the interns. Additionally, she liked the attractions and atmosphere of Indianapolis. Dr. Barnes' clinical interests interests are women's health and medically underserved populations and her research interest is in healthcare policy. Upon graduation Dr. Barnes would like to join a family medicine practice and hopes to eventually serve local and regional levels by working to improve healthcare delivery and resource utilization. Dr. Barnes is a member of the Student National Medical Association and in her free time she enjoys cooking, aerobics, gospel and jazz music.

Huma Bhatti, MBBS
Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Pakistan

Huma Bhatti, MBBS received her medical degree from the Fatima Jinnah Medical College in Pakistan. Dr. Bhatti chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency due to the educational curriculum and congenial staff. Dr. Bhatti's clinical interest is in sports medicine and her research interest is in women's health, especially regarding breast cancer. After she completes her residency training, Dr. Bhatti is interested in completing a sports medicine fellowship before entering clinical practice. In her free time, Dr. Bhatti enjoys spending her time with family and friends.


Neil Gamilla, M.D.
University of Santo Tomas, Manina, Phillipines
Neil Gamilla, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manina, Phillipines. Dr. Gamillia chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency because of its good in-patient program and well-structured curriculum. The program also provides a lot of resources that are used to help residents in training. He also really likes the Indianapolis area and friendly people. Dr. Gamilla's area of clinical interest is in sports medicine and after graduation he is planning on completing a fellowship in sports medicine. Dr. Gamilla is a member of the Philippine Medical Association and the Rotary Club International. Dr. Gamilla is married and in his free time he enjoys playing chess, basketball and computer games. He also enjoys watching TV and movies and loves to travel.

Mushkbar Khan, MBBS
Dow Medical College, Keyachi, Pakistan

Mushkbar Khan, MBBS, received her medical degree from the Dow Medical College, Keyachi, Pakistan. Dr. Khan chose the IU Family Medicine Residency program because the opportunities to learn all facets of primary care are plentiful and the residency environment is supportive. She liked the people that she would be working with and the overall friendly atmosphere. Dr. Khan's clinical interests are in women's health and community medicine/public health while her research interest in is prevention of obesity in children and young adults. Upon graduation, Dr. Khan would like to practice medicine in the Indianapolis area. In her free time, Dr. Khan enjoys spending time with her family & friends, shopping, and watching movies. She is married and has one young daughter.


Daniela Lobo, M.D.
Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras
Daniela Lobo, M.D., received her medical degree from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras in Tegucigalpa. Prior to joining the residency program, Dr. Lobo participated in the William J. Harrington Medical Training Programs for Latin America as an observer. She chose the IU Family Medicine Residency because it met all of her requirements: a university-based program with hands on experience learning with a world-class program. Additionally, Dr. Lobo was impressed with warm welcome from the faculty and staff. She also noted that the residents in the program were very happy and many have received numerous awards and recognition. Dr. Lobo's clinical interest is in teaching. Upon graduation, she plans on completing a Masters in Health Administration and work in both an outpatient clinic and hospital setting. She is also interested in working with the Latin community in Indiana. Dr. Lobo is a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association and Colegio Medico de Honduras. In her free time, she enjoys getting to know new places and share time with her friends and family.

Roya Mojarrad, M.D.
Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science, Tehran, Iran
Roya Mojarrad, M.D., received her medical degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science in Tehran, Iran, with a degree as a specialist in pediatrics. Dr. Mojarrad chose the IU Family Medicine Residency because of the great diversity and friendly atmosphere. She also liked the high standard of professional conduct & practice and the ability to get exposure to a variety of different disciplines during rotations. Dr. Mojarrad's clinical interests are endocrinology, nephrology and neonatology and her research interests are and in diabetes and stem cell. After residency, Dr. Mojarrad is contemplating a fellowship in sports medicine before she begins her clinical practice. She is married and has two daughters and in her free time Dr. Mojarrad enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and traveling.
 
Phumeza Msikinya, M.D., MEd
Ross University, Dominica
Phumeza Msikinya, M.D., born and raised in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, received her medical degree from Ross University in the Dominica. In addition she also received her Master of Education Degree from Indiana State University. Dr. Msikinya chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency because of the academics. The program has a sound program and distinguished faculty at a reputable institution and there are a wide variety of electives from which to chose. She also like the culturally diverse residency population and the city of Indianapolis. Dr. Msikinya's clinical interests are in women's health and infectious disease. Her research interest is in the socio-economic influences and access to healthcare for women and children. Upon graduation, Dr. Msikinya would like to join a group practice most likely in an underserved area. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. In her free time, Dr. Msikinya enjoys gardening, reading and spending time with her family.

Amina Syed, M.D.
Deccan College of Medical Sciences
Amina Syed, M.D., received her medical degree from the Deccan College of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India. Dr. Syed, a second year transfer resident, chose the IU Family Medicine Residency because it is a well organized university-based program which imparts strong clinical experience. She was also impressed by the experienced and supportive faculty and the diverse group of friendly residents. Dr. Syed's clinical interests are in Women's health, Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Nutrition. Her research interests are in Diabetes Mellitus and women's health. Dr. Syed is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, and Andhra Pradesh Medical Council. After graduation, Dr. Syed would like to complete a fellowship in Obstetrics/Women's health before entering into clinical practice. Dr. Syed is married to a fellow physician and they plan special "family time" to keep a healthy perspective and balance between their professional and personal lives. In her free time, she loves traveling, watching American football and cooking.

Bonnie Wong, MBBS
University of Hong Kong
Bonnie Wong, MBBS received her medical degree from the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Wong chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency because of the excellent program in the university setting. She also was impressed with the friendliness of the residents and staff and the sense of cohesive teamwork among the department teachers. Dr. Wong's clinical interests are in women's health and primary care and she is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. After graduation, Dr. Wong is considering a fellowship in women's health/obstetrics before going into practice. Dr. Wong is married and enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her husband.

Mitra Yazdi, D.Med.Sc
Azad University, Tehran, Iran
Mitra Yazdi, D.Med.Sc, received her medical degree from Azad University in Tehran, Iran. Dr. Yazdi chose the IU Family Medicine Residency due to the high level of education and the atmosphere of multiculturalism in the program. Dr. Yazdi's areas of clinical interest are in medicine and women's health and her research interest in obesity trends. After she completes her residency training Dr. Yazdi would like to practice in a small- to medium-sized community. In her free time she enjoys sports, nature, and gathering with friends.
