Azita Chehresa, MD, PhD
Shahid Beheshti School of Medical Sciences

 

Azita Chehresa, MD, PhD, received her medical degree from Shahid Beheshti School of Medical Sciences, Iran and her PhD from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, with her thesis on drug resistance and associated changes in life history traits of a parasitic nematode. Dr. Chehresa chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency because of its friendly environment, opportunities for research, and the state of the art facilities. She also found the multicultural environment as well as the diversified patient population appealing in her choice. Dr. Chehresa's areas of clinical research include office procedures, preventive medicine, and geriatrics and she has research interests in public health and cancer prevention and early detection. Upon graduation, her plans include an academic career in family medicine with research in public health issues and cancer prevention. In her free time, Dr. Chehresa enjoys spending time with her family, reading, painting, and traveling.


Hector DiCarlo, MD
Rosario University School of Medicine

 

Hector DiCarlo, MD,  attended medical school at the Rosario University School of Medicine, Rosario, Argentina. Additionally, Dr. DiCarlo has completed residencies in both surgery and OB-GYN. Dr. DiCarlo's long-term goal is to become a family medicine physician and help people of all walks of life, with an emphasis on the underserved population. He was impressed with the friendly environment and research opportunities of the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency and ultimately chose the program after meeting with the director, faculty and staff he met. Since his arrival in the US, Dr. DiCarlo has been involved in research activities in immunology of the placenta and heart and lung transplant at Methodist Hospital. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, music, reading, and his favorite sport, soccer.


Larissa Dimitrov, M.D,
Medical University of Sofia
Larissa Dimitrov, M.D., received her medical degree from the Medical University of Sofia, located in Sofia, Bulgaria. Dr. Dimitrov chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency because of the education opportunities provided and she found that the philosophy of this program compliments her own personality.  Her areas of clinical interest are women's health, preventive medicine, geriatrics, and genetics.  Her areas of research interest include osteoporosis and diabetes mellitus. Upon graduation from the residency program, Dr. Dimitrov's future plans are to pursue a  fellowship in geriatrics. Dr. Dimitrov is married to a fellow physician and has two energetic sons. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, music, and movies.  Additionally, Dr. Dimitrov believes that one's true success in life is received from the proper balance of mind, body, and spirit.

Thomas J. Duhig, MD
St. George's University

Thomas J. Duhig, MD, received his medical degree from St. George's University.  Dr. Duhig has a BS and BA in Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences and Nuclear Medicine and prior to medical school, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After his military service he worked as a nuclear medicine technologist in both hospital and clinical settings. Dr. Duhig chose the IU Family Medicine Residency because of its program reputation and sports medicine exposure opportunities with a well known and respected staff. His areas of clinical interest are sports medicine, athletic team coverage, acute care and pain management and he has research interests in prevention of musculoskeletal injuries in young athletes. Dr. Duhig is a member of the AMSSM, American Academy of Family Physicians, WONCA, and The American College of Sports Medicine.

Ruben Hernań Hernández Mondragoń, MD

Ruben Hernań Hernández Mondragoń, MD, received his medical degree from Facultad Cienuas Medicas, Universidad Nacional Autonoma Honduras, Tequaqalpa, Honduras. Dr. Hernández chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency because of the well-organized curriculum program and the experience that residents have with people from different backgrounds and large variety of pathologies. He also found that the people with whom he would work provided a warm and friendly work environment. Dr. Hernández is a member of AFS Intercultural Programs and Colegio Medizo Hondureno and his primary clinical interest is in helping the healthcare of the growing Hispanic community of Indianapolis.  In his free time, Dr. Hernández enjoys walking, museums/art galleries, and movies.


 Zakia Naz, MBBS
Sindh Medical College

 

Zakia Naz, M.D., received her medical degree from Sindh Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan. Dr. Naz chose the IU Family Medicine Residency because the program is largely unopposed and she felt comfortable with the residents and the faculty she met while interviewing. She was impressed with how accommodating the faculty were and that residents felt completely satisfied and competent with their training. Dr. Naz also was impressed with Methodist Hospital and the ancillary staff. Dr. Naz's area of clinical interest is in women's health while she has research interests in genetics. Upon graduation, Dr. Naz would like to practice in a clinical setting. Dr. Naz is married and has one son. In her free time, she enjoys reading, music, walking and spending time with her family.


 Gina Rocillo, MD
University of Santo Tomas

 

Gina Rocillo, MD, received her medical degree from University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. Dr. Rocillo chose the IU Family Medicine Residency because of how impressed she was with the state of the art facility and that it is a university-based training program that will provide abundant resources that are able to meet each individual residents professional needs. Dr. Rocillo's clinical interests are women's health and pediatrics. She has research interest in behavioral science. After graduation, Dr. Rocillo's plan is to join a group practice and eventually have her own private practice. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, mystery thriller books, and spending time with her family.


 Mehdi Tahsini, MD
Shiraz University

Mehdi Tahsini, MD, received his medical degree from Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran. Dr. Tahsini chose the IU Family Medicine Residency because the program has a great education program and friendly staff and physicians. He also liked the diversity of the residency and the sports medicine program. Dr. Tahsini is interested in sports medicine and upon graduation is considering a fellowship in sports medicine. While in Iran, Dr. Tahsini competed in two student Olympic games and was a member of a professional freestyle wrestling team while in medical school. In his free time, Dr. Tahsini enjoys spending time with his wife, working out at the gym, and all outdoor activities.
