Faculty Development and Fellowships Division
Faculty Development Programs
The
mission of the Faculty Development and Fellowships Division is
to support a culture of vitality and continual professional
growth. The investment in ongoing faculty development efforts
across individual, Division, and Department levels are intended
to assist the faculty in meeting their goals, in synergy with
the Department and institutional goals. Our faculty are the
single greatest asset we have for achieving the best in medical
education, advancing knowledge through research, and providing
clinical care that is second to none. Continual support and
development across all phases of one’s career are key to
nurturing and protecting this resource. Faculty development
initiatives involve several domains, including: teaching;
curriculum development; scholarly activity; leadership and
administrative skills; recruitment, retention, promotion, and
tenure.
To meet
this mission, the goals of the Faculty Development program are to:
provide continuous assessments of needs of individual faculty
members, Divisions, and the Department as a whole; develop
innovative, helpful, and timely programs to meet these needs;
disseminate information about programs offered externally, and to
coordinate and align our faculty development initiatives with those
offered elsewhere (i.e., IU School of Medicine; IUPUI; Society of
Teachers of Family Medicine, etc); to foster the retention and
promotion of faculty; and in general, to aid in sustaining a faculty
that is productive, vibrant, and embraces the Department mission.
Some of
our faculty development programs are restricted to Department of
Family Medicine faculty only. However, our programs are frequently
open to faculty members from other departments in the School of
Medicine, to community based family physician faculty, and to
faculty at family medicine residency programs across the state. To
