Kathy Zoppi, Ph.D., M.P.H.
Indiana University Department of Family Medicine

Dr. Zoppi is the Statewide Competency Director for Competency I, Effective Communication, for the Medical School. She is responsible for the development of fellowship programs and joint degree training. She is the project director for the faculty development fellowship in underserved medicine. She is also one of the behavioral science faculty in the residency program.

Dr. Zoppi completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She received her master of Public Health in Health Education-Health Behavior degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she also earned her Ph.D. in Health Communication Research. Dr. Zoppi began teaching in Family Medicine residency education in Detroit in 1986. She joined Indiana University faculty in 1993.

Her research interests include the patient-physician communication process in medical encounters, communication and health disparities, care of underserved patients, and the well-being of medical students and residents. She has been very involved in the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, currently serving as the co-chair of the Group on Physician-Patient Communication. Hobbies include biking, reading and yoga.
