Michael Barnes,

Clinical Family Medicine

Dr.
Michael Barnes, M.D., is Associate Professor of Clinical Family
Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of
Texas Heath Science Center at San Antonio in 1986 and his bachelor's
degree in Computer Science from North Texas State University in
1980. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice.
Dr. Barnes
also completed a fellowship in medical informatics in the Department
of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital in 1996. While at
Massachusetts, he developed an object-oriented distributed guideline
system allowing multiple Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
access to a common set of clinical practice guidelines.
Dr. Barnes
honors and awards include, "Best Paper," at the 19th Annual
Symposium on Computer Applications in Medical Care, 1995; "2nd
Place," at the 4th Annual Circuit Cellular Design Contest, 1992; and
"Family Practice Senior Resident of the Year," University of Texas
Health Science Center, 1990.
